Sodium chloride is one of the most commonly used inorganic salts in biochemical  research. Sodium chloride primarily originates from seawater and is the main  component of table salt. It is usually found as a colorless or white crystalline  powder, well soluble in water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol (alcohol) and  liquid ammonia, but insoluble in concentrated hydrochloric acid. It is widely used in  biochemical experiments, preparation of culture media, and buffer solutions such as  Tris buffer, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), MPM-2 (mitotic protein monoclonal 2)  cell lysis buffer, immunoprecipitation wash buffer, LB (Luria-Bertani) medium, dialysis  buffer, density gradient solution preparation, nucleic acid and protein purification,  analysis, determination of silver nitrate content, and trace determination of fluoride  and silicate.
